OUR STORY
Vævet is a Danish home decor brand that combines elegant Scandinavian design with rich Egyptian craftsmanship, passed down through generations of skilled weavers. Our inspiration stems from the Nordic philosophy of “less is more”, emphasising simple lines and harmonious textures that create a warm yet minimalistic style that is easy to love. At the same time, we infuse a spark of colour and unique timeless aesthetic from Egyptian cultural heritage.
We are committed to sustainable practices and exclusively use natural wool and 100% local Egyptian cotton - the finest in the world, known for its softness and durability. Natural fibres like cotton and wool are both sustainably sourced and biodegradable. And unlike synthetic rugs, our kilims retain beauty and quality, and do not emit harmful chemicals into your home.
Our creations celebrate traditional craftsmanship, supporting local artisans whose skills have been passed down through generations. Through close collaboration with them, we ensure that each handmade piece is of the highest quality, as well as unique and authentic.
KILIM
A kilim is a flat, hand-woven, lightweight and durable rug that is crafted on a traditional wooden loom. Made from wool and cotton, each rug is premium quality and hand crafted by skilled artisans through traditional techniques of weaving. The fact that each piece is woven by hand showcases natural imperfections and irregularities that highlight their authenticity.
FOWWA
We produce our kilims in Fowwa, a small town in the Egyptian Nile Delta, where the craftsmanship of hand-woven rugs has gone down through generations of artisans. Unfortunately, economic pressure, urbanisation and changing preferences of consumers, have challenged skilled artisans in maintaining this craft. The risk of losing cultural heritage, sustainable craftsmanship and the beautiful art of handweaving, has led us to put effort into maintaining it.
We do that by merging the oriental Egyptian art with the Scandinavian purity of style. The mix of these two worlds offers a bit of everything; from the neat and simple to the bold, colourful and patterned. Regardless of which kilim you choose, we ensure that it will bring a warm and inviting atmosphere into your home.
